More than one in five boys look for information about sex from porn. More than one in five (22 per cent) boys are looking for information about sex through pornography, a new report has found. According to SafeLives, a UK charity working to put an end to domestic abuse, relationships and sex education (RSE) is "falling seriously short" of what young people need despite the curriculum receiving its first update in 20 years in 2019.  The report also found that the majority of LGBT+ students (61 per cent) disagree that LGBT+ relationships are being threaded throughout RSE.  Meanwhile, other shortages came by way of abusive relationships, with just 46 per cent of students saying they feel confident about who to talk to if they know someone who is experiencing abuse.  Additionally, only 24 per cent of those surveyed recall being taught about coercive control in RSE. The findings were conducted via interviews, surveys and focus groups with more than 1,000 students a...

Vitamin D pills could stave off Alzheimer's disease, according to new research. Brains of older people with higher levels of the nutrient function better, say nutritionists. The main natural source is sunlight but wrinkly skin is less efficient at converting it, meaning older individuals are more likely to be deficient. Corresponding author Dr Sarah Booth said: "This research reinforces the importance of studying how food and nutrients create resilience to protect the ageing brain against diseases such as Alzheimer's and other related dementias." The number of cases worldwide will triple to more than 150 million by 2050. And with no cure in sight, there is an increasing focus on preventive measures such as lifestyle. Dr Booth and colleagues examined post mortem samples of brain tissue from 209 participants in the Rush Memory and Ageing Project that began in 1997. It is the first analysis of its kind, comparing vitamin D levels in adults who suffered from v...

WAYS TO WORK SMARTER INSTEAD HARDER

Image
What are some uncommon ways to work smarter instead of harder? 1. Eat the frog, tackle your most important tasks first. We use 9am-10am as “Crush” time.During this time, we get our most challenging tasks out of the way and don’t disturb one another with questions. Whichever activity you are dreading the most is probably the one you need to complete first thing in the morning. 2. Plan tomorrow tonight Create a short list of simple to-dos at night can help you hit the ground running in the morning, establishing a productive momentum that will carry you through the rest of the day. 3. List your “crucial results” for the day. Create a spreadsheet listing your top 3 crucial for each day. This will help you plan each day and make sure you’re maintaining focus on the most important tasks each day. 4. Change your self-talk. A simple shift in perspective can do wonders for your motivations and energy levels. Instead of saying “I have too much to do today!”, say “These are the two th...
